Praying consistantly for those in the field can be a daunting challenge. It's not easy to keep well informed on their exact needs. Prayer letters and email can help keep us up-to-date, but sometimes even deeply committed pray-ers can dwindle into the "God bless So and So" pattern of praying. Such general coverage is inadequate, for those in the field wrestle with the immense task of bringing in a harvest, often with too small a work force.
How can you pray pointedly for these people without knowing their immediate needs? This Seven-Day Prayer Cycle, targeting a specific area each day, could serve as a supplement to your other information. After a week, you can repeat the cycle, praying for the same or other individuals.
Sunday, The Home
Ask that it be a haven for the family and a model for national Christians and unbelievers. Remember the children coping with new customs, sometimes separated from the family. All ages are often plagued with loneliness. Singles, in particular, are without their closest family ties.
Pray that they keep spiritually vibrant, using their time wisely and making Bible study and prayer a priority. Ask that they enjoy harmony and warm relationships with fellow workers, national partners, and Christians.
Tuesday, Health and Safety
Learning how and taking time to care for their bodies in a sometimes difficult climate and environment is crucial. Often their ministry requires frequent travel that poses peril. Preventative prayers can keep them well and protected.
Ask for divine help to be competent in a new language and to possess insight and courage in coping with cultural differences. Close identification and generous expressions of love are paramount for reaching those about them.
Thursday, Holy Spirit's Empowering
Ask for a demonstration of Christian virtues in their lives. The fruit of the Spirit, joy, is listed immediately after love (Gal. 5:22). Pray that they will appropriate the Holy Spirit's power to experience that joy in hardships and temptations as well as for deliverance from discouragements and depression.
Friday, A Fruitful Witness
Pray for boldness in their ministries, open doors and hearts, spiritual responses, and growth.
Pray for revival in their lives, ministries, and nation. Include the political situation of the country and the government leaders.
