Edge Middle School Ministry
Wednesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Student Ministries Room
We recognize that the middle school years are some of the most difficult and exciting years of our lives. It’s the time in life when energy is at its peak and maturity is beginning. We take these years very seriously. We want to help the students as they are making decision on their own that will impact the rest of their lives. It is in the middle school years where most students are deciding for themselves whether they really believe in this "church and Jesus thing." We work hard to help students see the truth in Scripture and how practical and real God is.
We have three major objectives at Edge:
1. The first is Knowing God. We want student to not just know about God, but also know Him on a personal level. God offers us the opportunity to be in a personal relationship with Him. We want students to know how to do this in practical, daily ways.
2. The second objective is to Know Truth. The lines of truth have been significantly blurred in our society and culture. We want students to know that truth exists and that we can know the truth and live a life that is full and fun as we apply truths to our lives.
3. Our third objective is to Experience God. We want students to recognize that God is constantly at work. The Bible is clear that God neither sleeps nor slumbers. We are attempting to train the students how to recognize the work that God is doing in their lives and around them in the world and encourage them to join Him. It’s in times of following the purposes and plans of God when we really experience the power of God as He promised we would.
Let’s not forget though that we are talking about youth ministry. We take our calling very seriously, but in our seriousness we have a ton of fun. We do a lot of fun games at Edge. You never know what kind of active things we are going to do, but it’s almost always something that is a blast. Also, we would never expect to win the attention of a middle school student without having food available. We also love to worship God through music. We have been very blessed to be given great musicians (most of which are middle school students) that lead us in upbeat songs that we love to add motions to. Lastly, most of our lesson times are times where we break up into grade and gender-based Iron Groups (small groups). We believe that this approach of teaching is much more personal and is easier to gain the best benefits from.
